Hearts 3-2 St Mirren

Hearts 3-2 St Mirren

Despite all of the doom and gloom surrounding Tynecastle at the moment, Hearts were able to put a few half-smiles back on the faces of the fans this afternoon with a 3-2 victory over St Mirren.

Caretaker manager Stevie Frail handed 18 year old Gary Glen his first ever start for the top team this afternoon and the youngster was able to impress, with his highlight of the day undoubtedly coming in the 42nd minutevwhen he was able to score the goal that put Hearts into a 2-1 half time lead. It's great to see the young lad getting off to such a good start in the first team - this should give him a lot of confidence.

St Mirren had taken the after 20 minutes with an excellent goal by McCay, but Eggert Jonsson cancelled that out with a deflected strike just eight minutes later.

Hearts had their chances to put the game beyond doubt in the second half, but instead it was the Saints who managed to drag themselves back onto level terms with a fine strike by former Dunfermline midfielder Gary Mason with 13 minutes to go, and a fine volley from outside the area that it was too.

However the scoring was not finished, and it was Larry Kingston who was able to seal the points for Hearts with a great free-kick from 25 yards.

So, as far as the league is concerned this result doesn't mean an awful lot, but what little positives we can take out of the remaining games of this season certainly should not be discarded. It was good to see the young lad Glen coming in and playing well, and also that at long last there was some freshening up in the right back area (Jason Thomson coming in for Robbie Neilson).

Let's just hope that something ever fresher isn't too far around the corner for our club.......
