Hearts Win With Dougie - Hurrah!
What a strange old season this is becoming.
If things weren't already bizarre enough (Hearts' title challenge dying unexpectedly early, our failure to be named amongst Europe's biggest five clubs, etc!), we surely experienced the most startling happening of the season to date yesterday...and I'm not talking about a Hearts match that didn't involve a Calum Elliot goal.
No, I am of course referring to the fact that Hearts were able to record three points in a match which was overseen by everyone's favourite whistler, Dougie McDonald.
It would be fair to say that the Jambos' record in matches controlled by this gentleman (whose running style really does have to be seen to be believed!) is not the greatest.
I fully expected the barren run of results to continue yesterday (0-0 was my less-than-optimistic prediction), so it was a pleasant surprise to see the young Hearts players overcoming this extra obstacle at the same time as seeing off the challenge of Inverness Caley Thistle. They've managed to achieve something that many more illustrious names in maroon have failed to over the past two to three years!
Of course, yesterday's game was in effect a 'nothing' match wasn't it? Not in the eyes of the coaches and players of course (although Specs Haver may disagree when it comes to Calum Elliot!), but generally speaking there was very little resting on this match, so I suppose that Dougie could afford to go easy on us for once and save his energies for when it really counts again.
I'm quite sure that he won't disappoint his gaffers next season any time they decide to have a wee word in his ear before taking charge of a meaningful Hearts game.....!
