Pospisil Leaves Hearts

Michal Pospisil has left Hearts to sign for Belgian club Sint-Truidense.

A move away from Tynecastle for the popular Czech striker has been on the cards for some time now. When he was initially brought in by George Burley in the summer of 2005, he showed signs of being an excellent penalty-box striker, a player who was lively with some intelligent movement off the ball.

However his main failing even back then was his apparent lack of strength and ability to hold the ball up in games where Hearts had their backs to the wall, which meant that most of his starts tended to be in home matches. That said though, during the time when he was regularly starting for the club, he looked as good a natural goalscorer as we had at the club and he had some pretty good performances for Hearts, including a couple of very spectacular goals (his first for the club against Aberdeen still lingers in the memory for example).

Things have gone dramatically downhill for Pospisil over the past year or so though. Like all of the other strikers at the club, the ridiculous policy on team selection seriously affected his game, to the point where he dropped out of favour altogether for a considerable duration of time. He has been back in the squad this season, but appearances have tended to be 10-15 minutes coming off the bench here and there, which is no good to a 27 year-old who does have something to offer.

This move has come at the right time for Michal Pospisil and I'd like to wish him all the best for the future. Not the greatest forward Hearts have ever had but by no means the worst, and he never gave anything less than his all for the cause.
