Vital Report - Hearts 2-0 Ross County

Hearts' Scottish Premiership season continued with a win at Tynecastle against Ross County on Saturday.

This win, a two-nil one secured by Paterson and Sow goals in either half, made it back-to-back wins for Hearts with this claimed despite the second half played with only 10-men for most of it as the momentum starts to build again and the gap was closed on second placed Aberdeen, who were held to a draw.

It was a good start by Ross County with the visitors' Gardyne forcing Alexander into the first save of the afternoon as the Hearts 'keeper turned away his curling effort with the deadlock broken by the Jambos.

Nicholson saw his effort blocked but this fell nicely to Paterson (15) who powered home form the angle of the area, beating Ross County 'keeper Woods who had no chance, to put Hearts one-up and continue his impressive start to the campaign.

The defensive strength show by Hearts recently was continued, and was needed, as Ross County weren't too disheartened by falling behind, however a second was threatened when a Walker volley forced Woods into a fine save to keep County in it.

Hearts went down to 10-men when Augustyn was sent off for pulling back Boyce early in the second half, just two-minutes into it in fact. Boyce was running clean through so when the captain pulled him back the ref had no option but to brandish a red card.

A decision was made to remain on the offensive, which paid off, when Sow (67) added a second from a Walker cross to give Hearts a little breathing room at the midway point of the second half.

Ross County should have been back in the game but Curran, who had come off the bench, managed to hit the post from close range when it was easier to score it seemed! With the goal at his mercy and him unmarked and with a clear sight at goal from just two-yards he somehow managed to miss and a chance of a County fightback was lost....

This win, which was the first priority as a failure for Ross County to ever win at Hearts was maintained, also made the grip on third place a little tighter as well as closing the gap on Aberdeen in second to just two-points.
